Dr. Linda Armstrong, Chairperson, presided. The following members were present: Dr. Lynn Aquadro, Dr. Birdie Bailey, Dr. Tim Carter, Dr. Kerry Gatlin, Dr. Dan Hallock, Dr. Vagn Hansen, Dr. Brett King, Dr. Donna Jacobs, Dr. Teresa Leonard, Dr. Linda Lewis, Ms. Kelly Richardson, Ms. Amy Ryder, Dr. Chizuru Saeki, Dr. John Thornell, and Dr. Sue Wilson. Approval of the minutes of the meetings of September 10, September 24, and December 3, 2009 Dr. King moved approval and Dr. Lewis seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Removal of Graduate Council from shared governance structure see attachment from Curriculum Committee deliberations Following extensive discussion, Dr. Aquadro made a motion and Dr. Carter seconded the motion to inform President Cale that the Graduate Council wishes to remain a separate entity from the shared governance structure. The motion was approved unanimously. Approval of revised Graduate Curriculum Proposal Form Dr. Lewis moved approval and Dr. Hallock seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Consideration of the Graduate Faculty Application for Dr. Xihui Paul Zhang, Dr. Lloyd E. Jones III, Mr. Charlton James, and Dr. Wilbert Karigomba Dr. Carter moved approval and Dr. King seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Consideration of the request from the Department of Secondary Education to change the internships hours (ED 584) for all Alternative Fifth-Year Candidates from 9 semester hours to 6-9 semester hours; Consideration of the request from the Department of Secondary Education for course title and description change, ED 578; Consideration of the request from the Department of Secondary Education for course title and description change, ED 515; Consideration of the request from the College of Education for the addition of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teaching field to ACHE approved M.S.Ed. program; Consideration of the request from the Department of Secondary Education for new courses, ED 621, ED 610, ED 608; Consideration of the request from the Department of Secondary Education for crosslisting ED 415 with ED 515 Dr. Carter moved approval and Dr. Lewis seconded the motion. Consideration of the request from the Department of Counselor Education to reactivate Track 2 Option in School Counseling with modified admission requirements Dr. Leonard moved approval and Ms. Ryder seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Consideration of the request from the Department of Counselor Education to combine the content of two courses, CHD 621 and CHD 622, into one course CHD 621 with the addition of a $30 laboratory fee; delete CHD 622 from the catalog and from the Community Counseling curriculum and replace it with a three-hour elective Ms. Ryder moved approval and Dr. Lewis seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Consideration of the request from the Department of Counselor Education for a new course, CHD 625, as an additional elective for counseling students Dr. King moved approval and Ms. Ryder seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Consideration of the request from the College of Nursing for a title and course description change for NU 600 Dr. Carter moved approval and Dr. Aquadro seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Consideration of the request from the College of Nursing for IP grading option for NU 699 course Dr. Aquadro made a motion and Dr. Carter seconded the motion allowing the College of Nursing to use the IP grading option for NU 699 with the stipulation that the student can receive credit only once for the course. The motion was approved unanimously. Consideration of the request from the College of Nursing for revisions to refund statements, admission requirements, progression and retention, and course description changes for NU 501, 503, 600, 610, 611, 612, 699 Dr. King moved approval and Dr. Carter seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. The requested change regarding tuition refunds will have to be approved by the Business Office. Consideration of the request from the Department of Management and Marketing for addition of MG 610 as an option within the International Business concentration Dr. Carter moved approval and Dr. Aquadro seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Consideration of the request from Enrollment Services for establishment of an admissions denial appeal process Dr. Leonard moved approval and Ms. Ryder seconded the motion. The motion was approved unanimously. Upon continued discussion, Dr. King made a motion and Dr. Hallock seconded the motion to reconsider the request based on additional information presented, ask Dr. Thornell to have the Council of Academic Deans consider the concerns, and bring a recommendation back to next weeks Graduate Council meeting. The motion was approved unanimously. Consideration of the request from the Department of Geography for a Master of Science degree in Geospatial Science Dr. King moved approval and Dr. Lewis seconded the motion.
